ARINC StarCaster^® Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS) Tower System

ARINC has engineered a compact, integrated Digital Automatic Terminal Information Service (D-ATIS) package that’s ideal for small to mid-sized airports and military airfields. Developed in partnership with software developer STR-SpeechTech of Victoria, B.C., Canada, the ARINC StarCaster^® ATIS product features a natural-sounding text-to-voice translator, and other easy-to-use features for controllers. These include pull-down menus and templates for entering text information on the runways, Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), airfield conditions, and local weather data from the Systems Atlanta IDS-5 service. Completed text messages are converted to clear voice for the automated ATIS broadcast. The text is also sent by data link over ARINC’s GLOBALink^SM air/ground network to any requesting aircraft, anywhere in the world.

The ARINC StarCaster ATIS system is installed at numerous U.S. Air Force bases, where it benefits controllers by reducing the distracting and repetitive tasks associated with manual ATIS updates, and improves controller efficiency and overall situational awareness. The result to pilots is a clear voice broadcast, and the ability to retrieve the ATIS message at the touch of a button over ARINC’s GLOBALink air/ground network. StarCaster technology also accepts digital text or code from industry-standard air traffic control systems, and is easily configured for individual airports.
