Air/Ground Domestic Voice Service
ARINC's Air/Ground Domestic Voice Service is the aeronautical industry's air/ground voice communications link for aeronautical operational control (AOC) messages. The service is backed by 45 years of ARINC experience and a network of 124 ARINC-operated VHF radio stations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It provides reliable, high-quality, blanket en route coverage above 20,000 feet in the continental United States, Hawaii, and on the coastal regions of western Canada and Alaska.
In addition, it allows ground parties to contact their aircraft using any desktop dual-tone multifrequency (DTMF) telephone, and aircrew to contact ground parties using DTMF microphones, bypassing ARINC radio operator involvement.
The service allows aircrews and ground parties to immediately communicate about matters such as:
- Operational control and flight information
- Aircraft malfunctions and emergencies
- In-flight medical assistance
- Weather and destination airport information
- Aircraft diversions
ARINC's radio network is controlled from our San Francisco Communications Center, where radio operators monitor VHF frequencies, receive and route calls, and transcribe and deliver messages 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. ARINC's radio operators can handle messages by:
- Sending transcribed messages via AviNet® to any ICAO address worldwide
- Delivering messages by telephone
- Establishing a phone patch between aircraft and any ground facility
- Delivering ground-originated calls to aircraft anywhere in the coverage area
- Signaling the aircraft's Selective Calling System (SELCAL) that a message is incoming, relieving the pilot of the need to continually monitor the call frequency
The service provides automated message routing, voice over frame message transmission, and two-way direct dialing. In addition, it provides VHF dial access service, allowing ground parties to contact their aircraft using any desktop dual-tone multifrequency (DTMF) telephone without ARINC radio operator involvement. When used in conjunction with ARINC's WebASD service, VHF dial access gives dispatch centers convenient, self-serve use of ARINC's air/ground domestic network.
