PilotMate®
Chart Displays
The following images highlight some of the PilotMate features.
The images are shown as raster charts, but are also available
as vector charts. Click on any thumbnail below to view a larger
version of the image.
On
the Main chart display, accurate vessel position, heading, and
course are shown for a vessel backing into a berth. Vectors show
movement of the bow and stern. The larger dot on the ship icon
is the pivot point. The smaller dot indicates the location of
the rail-mounted GPS antennas.
The
Monitor Station chart display replays the movement of an actual
ship. A history trail tracks the smooth path of the ship and illustrates
that the heading remained stable, while the ship moved slowly
through the harbor. To accomplish this, the heading determination
algorithms must be precise.
This
image shows the point-and-click distancing feature, along with
the ship's projection. In this case, the point-and-click distance
indicates the range and bearing from the bow to the bridge. The
ship's projection indicates the extrapolated position of the vessel
at 1, 2, and 3 minutes in the future, based on current speed,
course, heading, and rate of turn.
The
ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communication display enables handlers
to view up to 100 other traffic ships in the area. In this example,
the handler's ship is shown in green and a traffic ship in purple.
The green line and diamond icon indicate a route and a waypoint
overlay, respectively.
Depth
sounding data can be loaded into PilotMate and viewed, as shown
in this chart display. In this example, the Army Corps of Engineers'
data are shown. Depths less than 30 feet are shown in red, over
40 feet in green, and in-between in yellow. Handlers can instantly
adjust upper and lower limits of the soundings controls.
