Guam's Won Pat International Airport to Receive Upgraded vMUSETM Technology from ARINC
November 3, 2009
Singapore—ARINC Incorporated today announced it has successfully upgraded the common-use check-in system serving major airline customers at Won Pat International Airport, the main airport on Guam.
ARINC’s Asia-Pacific Division received Notice to Proceed earlier this year and completed the upgrade in Q3, installing new vMUSETM technology. ARINC’s customer is the Guam MUSE Club, including Continental Micronesia, Philippine Airlines, Korean Air, and Northwest Airlines. The new vMUSE technology will reduce software engineering costs and is compatible with all of today’s common-use (CUTE) equipment, as well as tomorrow’s CUPPS common-use standard.
“ARINC’s technology has served us very well, supporting our airport operations for 8 years, since 2001. With its central information system, complicated interfaces have been eliminated and the data flow between airlines and airports is much faster,” said Mr. Desmond Fullerton, Guam MUSE Club Chairperson. “Upgrading to vMUSE will further enhance our operational effectiveness and cost efficiencies. In addition, we will be in line with IATA’s Simplifying the Business (StB) initiative of implementing 2D Barcode Boarding Passes to reduce costs.”
Randy Pizzi, Vice President and Managing Director of ARINC Asia Pacific, said, “We are thrilled to continue working with Guam’s MUSE Club to support the growing requirements of its member airlines. ARINC remains fully committed to developing products that are in line with our customers’ growth strategies by leveraging on the latest technologies available today.”
Guam Won Pat International Airport is the primary regional airport serving passenger and cargo needs between Guam and the United States, Asia, Australia, and various islands in the Pacific region. The airport serves 6 international airlines including China Airlines, Continental Micronesia, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, Northwest Airlines, and Philippine Airlines, and is located in Guam’s business district. In 2008, Guam Won Pat International Airport embarked on a $150 million expansion project to boost economic opportunities for Guam. The airport’s passenger traffic also reached approximately 2.8 million in 2008. For more information, visit their web site at http://guamairport.com/.
Economical and designed to meet airport needs of the future, vMUSE optimizes airport operations by eliminating software engineering and development costs, giving smaller and mid-sized airports more flexibility to upgrade their operations. vMUSE is a quick and easy upgrade from the current iMUSE platform and is designed to be interoperable with all current common-use terminal equipment (CUTE) technology and tomorrow’s common-use passenger processing systems (CUPPS).
