ARINC Wins Major Technology Contract for Expansion of Haneda, Japan's Busiest Airport

September 8, 2009

Tokyo, Japan—In competitive bidding, Japan’s Tokyo International Air Terminal (TIAT) Corporation has awarded ARINC Incorporated the contract to enhance passenger check-in services and improve operational efficiency at the new International Terminal of Haneda Airport.

ARINC will deploy more than 200 check-in and departure workstations equipped with its industry-leading vMUSETM common-use technology. ARINC will also provide 20 SelfServTM Common-Use Self Service (CUSS) kiosks to support the check-in applications of a growing number of international airlines.

Haneda Airport is undergoing significant expansion, and the new International Terminal is scheduled for completion in July 2010. A new fourth runway is also under construction for operation by 2010.

“As one of Asia’s busiest airports, it is critical that the technologies implemented at Haneda are able to support the massive and growing number of passengers that need to be processed,” said Mr. Hirofumi Kagawa, TIAT’s Manager of Facilities Planning. “We expect that ARINC’s systems will be able to meet this challenge, and will enable us to realize our goal of increasing our airport capacity to 90 million passengers in 2010.”

Randy Pizzi, Vice President and Managing Director of ARINC’s Asia Pacific Division, said, “We are very excited to be working with TIAT for this project. Our CUPPS-ready vMUSE technology and industry leading SelfServ CUSS kiosks will enhance Haneda Airport’s operational efficiency, and provide passengers with a smooth check-in experience now and in the future.”

Haneda Airport (HND), formerly known as Tokyo International Airport, is the primary base of Japan's two major domestic airlines, Japan Airlines (Terminal 1) and All Nippon Airways (Terminal 2), as well as low-cost carriers Hokkaido International Airlines, Skymark Airlines, Skynet Asia Airways, and StarFlyer. Handling over 60 million passengers per year, Haneda Airport is by far Japan's busiest airport and ranks among the world's top five in passenger traffic. Haneda is expected to be able to handle 90 million passengers after completing an expansion in 2010. For more information, visit the web site at www.tiat.co.jp/en/index.html.
