ARINC AIM® Security System to Protect Municipal Property in Lawrence, Massachusetts

March 25, 2009

Annapolis, Maryland—ARINC Incorporated has begun installing a network-based surveillance and security system to protect municipal properties in the city of Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Under a subcontract from CBE Technologies of Andover, Massachusetts, ARINC will install remote video surveillance and access control systems at four city-owned sites, including the Department of Public Works equipment yard, the city water treatment plant, the Lawrence Public Library, and Lawrence City Hall.

The advanced security project for Lawrence is based on ARINC’s cost-effective AIM® technology. Individual sites will be capable of stand-alone monitoring, while a workstation in a new control and data center in downtown Lawrence will have overall control capability. The system will be connected over the city’s existing enterprise IP network.

Personnel at the control center will be able to monitor and record activity at all three sites, and regulate access by controlling gates and entrances. The project is intended to reduce crime and theft, prevent unauthorized entry, and protect critical assets.

“ARINC is extremely pleased to be selected for this important work at Lawrence,” stated Tim Ciocco, ARINC Director, Security Systems. “The multiple remote sites are a perfect match for our AIM security technology.”

The AIM Command and Control suite is used by many nuclear power plants and mission-critical facilities throughout the United States. AIM is extremely flexible and cost-effective because it is based on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components and can be integrated easily with older legacy and modern IP technologies.

The ARINC remote video surveillance system will store and retrieve video images over extended periods of time, allowing careful analysis of events after the fact.

ARINC is working on the project with assistance from the City of Lawrence Information Technology Department and CBE Technologies, the city’s prime network contractor. The security system installation is expected to be finished in the third quarter of 2009. Because of the open architecture of the ARINC AIM system, additional sites can be added to the network easily in the future.
